What is Reiki?

 

Reiki is a truly relaxing non-invasive treatment which relieves stress and pain as well as emotional blockages.  A Reiki practitioner will conduct healing energy through their hands and transmit it to the recipient's body.  Developed by Shinto monk, Mikao Usui in the 1920’s, the word Reiki itself is made up of two Japanese words, Rei meaning soul or spirit and Ki meaning vital energy.  Practitioners work with special symbols when giving healing. These symbols, which increase the intensity of healing power, were received in a divine revelation to Usui whilst he was on retreat at a sacred mountain.

 

How does Reiki work?

 

Every human being has an energetic body as well as a physical one. The universal life energy is fed to the body via chakras, meridians and the spinal channel. When there is a blockage preventing the energy from flowing  correctly, then an energetic imbalance happens. This in turn can lead to illness in the area of the body affected.   A Reiki practitioner would detect this blockage and restore any imbalance in the body, allowing the universal life force energy to flow as it should. 

 

 

What happens during a Reiki healing session?

 

Reiki can be given anywhere but it is always preferable to conduct healing where possible in a relaxing and peaceful environment. Healing takes place with the recipient fully clothed and either lying down on a couch or seated on a chair. It is important that the person is comfortable when receiving Reiki.  Relaxing music will be played in the background or if the person wishes there can be silence. Before the session commences, the recipient will be asked some health questions including whether there are any areas of their body which are sensitive to touch. Reiki can involve lightly touching the body in a non-intrusive way but often the hands are placed just above the body. If you have a particular part of your body where you are experiencing discomfort or pain, extra time and attention can be given to that area. The whole session usually lasts about 1 hour.

 

What might I experience during a Reiki healing session?

 

Everyone experiences healing in a different way but you may feel a gentle tingling sensation in your body or heat coming from the practitioner’s hands. Reiki helps immensely in relieving stress and you may find that you just feel deeply relaxed and even fall asleep. Some people experience a meditative state where they are still aware of their surroundings but are also reflecting inwards.  Of course you may not experience much at all during a session however, Reiki is cumulative and the more you experience it the more it has a beneficial effect.

 

How much does a healing session cost?

 

The cost is £35.00 for an hour and includes travelling within a 10 mile distance of Basingstoke. For distances over 10 miles, there is a cost of 45p per mile.  

 

 

Can I learn Reiki?

 

Yes everyone is able to learn Reiki and you do not have to do it on a professional level to benefit There are three levels:

 

Reiki 1  ( Shoden) An introductory level where you will receive four attunements which will enable you to practice Reiki on yourself, family and friends. You will not be able to practice on a professional level until you have completed level 2.

 

Reiki II  (Okuden)  The next level will see you receive a further two attunements and three reiki symbols and enables you to set up your own professional practice should you so wish. There should be at least six months after Reiki 1 before doing Reiki II.

 

Reiki III (Shinpiden) This is the Reiki Master Teacher level and further deepens your knowledge enabling you to do distance healing and attune others to Reiki. You will receive a further attunement and symbol. You will also learn how to set up your own training courses. There must be at least one year between Reiki II and Reiki III.

 

How do I get attuned to Reiki?

 

You will need to be attuned by a certificated Reiki Master Teacher. Usually you will attend a weekend workshop with other people but you can do the attunement on a one to one basis.
